Summer

Camp Genesis Outdoor Story Time

It has been quite an active Summer at Covenant. Each weekday we host the Genesis Children’s Summer Camp in which we entertain somewhere between 40-60 highly active youngsters from 8 a.m. to around 5 p.m. This is the second year we have partnered with the Warrensville Road Baptist Church to host the camp and, needless to say, it has brought life to our building over the Summer months. Between the two locations, more than 100 kids, ages 5 to 12, have enjoyed learning about the Bible; reading and math lessons; gardening; and outdoor playtime. It is one of those opportunities for outreach that God sort of dropped in our lap. Interestingly, there was a strong possibility that we would not be a part of the program this year because of a shortage of volunteers. Thanks be to God, things worked out.

Our other major weekly activity is our Farmer’s Market, which sets up every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the church parking lot.  After a slow start, we are seeing a steady stream of people coming in and purchasing fresh fruits and vegetables at affordable prices. To make up for the lack of vendors, one of our parishioners came up with the brilliant idea of purchasing produce wholesale and retailing it at minimal markup. The Holy Spirit has been active in the hearts of our people because that’s the only way that idea could have been imagined.

The camp runs through the first week in August and the market through the Labor Day weekend. Thanks be to God for the excitement that has been stirred within us.
